On January 26th 2011, Sioned Williams will premiere a harp concerto with conductor Andrew Litton and the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios, London. The performance will be given on the revolutionary MIDI Harp designed and built by Camac Harps in France.
Commissioned by Sioned from composer Graham Fitkin, the work will make use of the extended abilities of this ground-breaking new instrument, and we can expect to hear sounds far removed from those normally associated with a harp!
Jakez Francois, of Camac Harps, France has been developing this instrument with immense passion over the last twenty years or so.
At Sioned’s request, for forthcoming publicity use, I was the first British photographer invited to spend Wednesday at the BBC ‘s iconic Maida Vale Studios taking some shots of this impressive and very beautiful harp. It has the most amazing and distinctive glossy black body with white outlining.
