Mixing Business and Pleasure – Cricket Writer Portraits

I spent several days over the weekend relaxing and enjoying some time watching Middlesex CCC play Surrey CCC in the LV championship at Lords. My love of cricket has brought me into contact with several journalists and commentators on the sport and one of them is Lizzy Ammon. A writer and blogger with Spin Cricket, Mirror Sport, MSN Sport and sometimes commentator on Test Match Sofa, Lizzy’s life long love of cricket is well known amongst the cricket crowd. She had wanted some new photos for a while, we have probably discussed it on and off for a year or so, but never managed to get our diaries synchronised until this weekend. Lords is of course an amazing and historical ground, though by its very nature, has to be hugely functional as well, but there are still lots of opportunities for some great portrait pictures. Here are just a few of them.

Blue Umbrella Website Photographs

At an Athena networking lunch recently I met a lovely lady called Jill Thorn. Jill runs a Virtual PA company called Blue Umbrella, operating nationally. She is in the process of having her website updated, so wanted her profile pictures updating too. I visited her at her home and we decided to utilise a range of backgrounds to create a small portfolio of images that could be used in different situations, from very plain backgrounds, to more environmental styles.

Property Photography in North London for Bibliotheque

I recently met a very nice lady who is part of the team that runs Bibliotheque in Muswell hill & Potters bar – a company that specialises in contemporary Porcelain and Mosaic Tiles. I visited the showroom and was stunned by both the range and quality of the materials so was very happy when I  received an email asking if I could go and photograph some of the porcelain tiles and mosaic tiles installed in a clients apartment here in North London.

The aim was to show how the tiles blend in with other decoration and enhance the environment into which they are fitted. In this instance, the porcelain & mosaic tiles were used in the bathroom, as well as throughout the apartment on the floor. When you scroll down the photographs you may think the floor is wooden and indeed, it is a very good impersonator, but is actually gorgeous tiles created to replicate the joys of wood without many of the associated issues and maintenance.

If you would like more information about the range Bibliotheque can supply for you, then please visit their website at www.bibliotheque.co.uk Alternatively you can call or pop into their showrooms.

HydeBark! Mayhew Dog Show

Last week was huge fun, we were in Hyde Park for the annual Mayhew Animal Home Dog Show. This years support from the Lord Mayor of Westminster means that the show was held in Hyde Park. We had a stall set up and offered pet portraits which were very popular. Just a few examples of the posing pooches….

An Artist at Work

A few weeks ago I was really pleased to be part of a make-up masterclass run by Joyce Connor of Brides and Beauty The class was in the hostesses home and several ladies attended, all keen to learn a bit more about make up application and having their current make up bags looked at.

Joyce needed some photographs, which of course is where I came in, so I thought I would share a few.

Joyce can run these masterclasses for you and your friends, at your home, so if you want more information, do contact her at Brides and Beauty and get your girly night in booked.

Beauty Salon Photography

It was a cold but bright morning a few weeks ago when I arrived to photograph the salon at Skindeep in Elstree.  Salon owner Laurie has worked hard, together with her team of professional therapists, to offer a comprehensive range of treatments in a calm and knowledgable environment. The salon has beautiful rural views, yet is easy to find on the outskirts of Elstree.

I have done some product for shots for Laurie in the past and was very happy to oblige when she asked me to come and take some photographs of the salon and its reception & retail area.

Charity Gala Performance & Dinner

On 10th November, I was asked by my favourite charity, The Mayhew Animal Rescue if I could come along to a charity gala night and take some photographs. Try stopping me!

The night was hosted by The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Susie Burbridge in aid of her 3 chosen Charities, The Mayhew, Kidscape and Veterans Aid. It started with a special preview performance of The Lion in Winter at the Theatre Royal Haymarket starring Joanna Lumley [Patron of the Mayhew] and Robert Lindsey, and directed by Trevor Nunn. At the interval, during the drinks reception, we took the opportunity to take some pictures of the Lord Mayor and some of the guests who’s ticket price was benefiting the 3 charities.

Volunteers from The Mayhew Animal Rescue, Kidscape and Veterans Aid were also there to help promote the charities

After the Gala performance, many of the guests had the donated even more money by buying tickets to a charity dinner, hosted and sponsored by the Ritz Hotel, London. They were taken from the theatre to the hotel by a complimentary Harrods bus – it was rather lovely to climb aboard a Routemaster again.

The Lord Mayor gives a very personal and heartfelt speech about the charities she supports.

The Lord Mayor is joined by fellow Lord Mayor, of Kensington & Chelsea, Councillor Julie Mills and Actress Ruby Wax

The Ladies who get things done! These 5 gorgeous ladies organised and ran the evening and what a success it was.

I also want to mention that apparently, 3 tickets from the raffle are as yet unclaimed, so if you are the owner of Blue 255, Green 35 or Orange 7 please get in touch with the Lord Mayors office at thelordmayor@westminster.gov.uk or contact claude@kidscape.org.uk to claim your prize.

MassageTherapy Photography

If you have your own website for your business, then having photographs that are specific to you doesn’t have to cost the earth. It also has the advantage of showing your prospective clients the real you, doing your real job. It offers more peace of mind that you are who you say you are, an important factor in these days of google searches.
Rakhee from Have a Massage needed photographs for her new website, so we found some willing clients [it wasn't difficult given the brief] and she now has her own personal set of ‘stock’ images to use on her website as and when she needs them or wants to change them. Do have a look at her website >> www.haveamassage.co.uk

Here are a few examples of the sort of pictures we took demonstrating several of the treatments offered, including Body Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and a specialist Pre & Post Natal Massage and Reflexology service.

Charity Dog Walk – The Mayhew

As an animal lover and owner of cats & dogs, I was very happy to spend Sunday on Hampstead Heath in London, photographing the Mayhew Animal Rescue Centre‘s Charity Dog Show and Sponsored Walk. The charity this year celebrates 125 years of rescuing lost and unwanted dogs, cats and small furry critters here in London and this event is just one of their many annual fund raising events. Their work also involves supporting projects internationally to promote animal welfare and the humane management of homeless cats and dogs through a network of community animal care initiatives. If you think you could provide a loving home for one of the many dogs, cats and rabbits in the care of the Mayhew, please do get in touch in with them.

Our day started at 10.30 with the dog show – over 100 dogs entered in categories such as Prettiest Female, Most Handsome Male and Waggiest Tail – not exactly Crufts, but who needs that when everyone had a fantastic time and the dogs were all so happy and there was plenty of tail wagging round the bandstand show ground. The judges were picked from amongst the Mayhew’s celebrity supporters, including actor & Hampstead resident Peter Egan, Daily Star columnist Joe Mott and TV’s favourite Vet Marc Abraham, as well as one of the rescue centre vets, Gen Wilkinson.

After the show, a 4 mile sponsored walk round the heath finished the day – and yes, for those that know my aversion to exercize, especially where hills are involved, I did do the full walk, with full camera gear and great fun it was too!

So, some pictures from the day – if you were there and would like to buy prints with all proceeds going to the Mayhew, there is a full gallery HERE
